Note: Thugly = Thoroughly Ugly
For the past 5 years I have been involved with a wonderful group of beaders through the world wide web. Through this group I have met truely wonderful women from all over the US and even from around the world. This group teaches, uplifts, challenges, and offers emotional support. A true Sisterhood.
Last year, a cetain sister, who at her own request shall remain nameless, put out a request for sisters willing to bead one of her cabs. She was working on making cabochons and wanted experienced beaders to work with them and provide her with feedback.
Since I was on vacation, it took me awhile to respond, and by the time I did, all of the "good cabs" had been sent to other sisters. But, as a true sister, she willingly sent one of her "ugly" cabs on the condition that her name not be associated with it. So this is the story of that Ugly Cab and its journey to a (hopefully) beautiful piece of art jewelry.
We start with the Cab:
Now anyone that knows me knows that Orange is not my favorite color. In spite of that, on first glance I still could not call the cab ugly. Rather, it was simply unfinished . . . .a work in progress. The first thing I had to decide was what to do about the orange. . . . play it up? play it down? My eye kept going back to the blues, so I pulled out all of the blue seed beads I owned . . . .
Once I started setting the cab down into piles of blue seed beads, I knew, blue was the right direction. The orange was not so . . . . . . well, orange. And the blues really started to pop.
But now what? During the time I was working on the cabochon, I was teaching a class on beaded beads at Two Sisters at Play in Hopkins, MN. Why not beaded beads? I could bring in some of the orange and start to tie the colors together.
Stay tuned for how it all comes together . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . .a moment to sit and write!
Our first show was last weekend in St. Anthony Park. Thank you to all the residents of that area for making us feel so welcome! St. Anthony Park is a lovely area, and the Arts and Crafts festival is a great show.
For those who could not make it to the show, this is our new display. It is a work in Progress. What do you think?
We were set to do all of our shows at the Metropolitain Artists Market this season. Unfortunaltely the Market will not be happening this year, so we are scrambling to fill our calendar. Keep checking the here for where to find us next.
